There may not have been any country with the name Nigeria any longer had President Muhammadu Buhari failed to win the 2015 presidential election, Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has said.
This was made known by NGF Chairman and governor of Borno Kashim Shettima on Tuesday when he and other governors from the North paid a visit on Senator George Akume; Tor Tiv V, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse, and Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi, Benue State.
Shettima who led governors of Bauchi and Kano states, Mohammed Abubakar and Abdullahi Gunduje respectively as delegates to Benue State, argued that nothing would have stopped Nigeria from going into extinction if Buhari had not won.
According to him, the former party in power, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was at the edge of destroying the basic component that bonded Nigeria, which would have led to the country’s total collapse.
“Had President Buhari not won the election in 2015, Nigeria would have gone into extinction and as it is now, the PDP needs to be proscribed,” he said.
He commended Benue people for their continuous support of Northern agenda noting, that “The North had moral duty to support Benue state following her continuous support of presidential candidates from the region.”
He went further to state that their mission in Benue State was to celebrate with the Tiv people for the peaceful selection of the Tor Tiv V, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse.
