Teacher docked for hurting neighbour

A teacher, who allegedly wounded her neighbour for taking her child to the toilet, on Tuesday appeared before a Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State.

Thirty-five-year-old Chinyere Okorie, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a three-count charge.

She, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Herman Donald told the court that the accused beat and wounded Mrs Tina Okafor for taking the accused’s child to toilet after she excreted on her pants near Okafor’s cooking space.

Donald said that the accused committed the offences at 10.00a.m. on Jan. 5, at Aso ‘A’, Mararaba.

“The complainant took the girl to the toilet in order for her to continue what she was doing.

“Instead of Okorie to appreciate what she did, she started a quarrel with her and conspired with her brother to beat up the complainant,” he submitted.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 266 and 241 of the Penal Code.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Shekarau ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, sign a bail bond and present an affidavit of means.

He adjourned hearing in the case until Feb. 1.
