Arsenal could complete the signing of Denis Suarez from Barcelona next week, according to reports in Spain, according to Express.co.uk reports.
Suarez is Unai Emery’s top target this month as he looks to add to his options in midfield for the second half of the season.
And Mundo Deportivo report that Suarez has a ‘foot and a half’ out of the club already and that sources close to the negotiations hope an agreement can be struck next week.
Arsenal are unable to sign Suarez on a permanent deal this month and can only loan him due to FFP restrictions.
Barcelona however would prefer a transfer and may look to include an obligatory purchase option for the summer.
That could work for both clubs and the deal appears to be moving forward.
Suarez is likely to operate on both winger for Arsenal and would compete with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi for a slot in the starting XI.
Arsenal are set to lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus but Emery sees Suarez as a wide player having worked with him at Seville.
He played for Barcelona in the defeat to Levante, coming on for the final 23 minutes, but is yet to make a start in any competition this season.
And Suarez, 25, is keen to team up with his old boss again wants to seal a move to London.
Emery however admitted the club were hamstrung by financial issues and could only bring in loan signings this month.
“We cannot make payments to sign players,” Emery said.
“We can only loan players.
“I don’t know about his [Suarez] situation. But we can only sign players on loan.
“I know the club is working to find players who can help us, with this condition.
“I know these players and they are very good players. But I cannot sign more.”
