ConnectNigeria Holds Business Mixer In Lagos

Lagos – ConnectNigeria, one of the biggest business portals in the country, has organised what it termed Business Mixer in Lagos where business people, entrepreneurs and others gathered to exchange ideas on how to move their businesses to the next level.

The event was held at the British Council, Lagos. This edition was themed ‘The Business of Blogging’ and there were over 70 participants in attendance comprising about 30 bloggers, 20 writers, and a number of social media personalities, who leveraged on the strategic opportunity to freely network in an enabling environment.

Speaking on the event, Uzo Anakwe, head, Business Development at ConnectNigeria, said that the Business Mixer was organised in partnership with the British Council, adding that it was an event for business people, entrepreneurs and startups in the business ecosystem to engage one another, learn and network with one another.

He added that the event was meant to bring people who have extensive experience with persons who are beginning so that the former can mentor the latter.

The panelists included Adesola Ade-Unuigbe (editor-in-chief,; Fisayo Fosudo (Tech YouTuber); Muyiwa Matuluko (founder and Editor-In-Chief, Tech Point) and Ezinne Alfa (founder, Beauty in Lagos).

Matuluko spoke about the challenges of blogging in the tech space and advised participants who are interested in blogging to be creative with their unique ideas, in order to stand out from other blogs.

Fisayo Fosudo warned against starting a blog with the intention of just making huge financial returns within unrealistic timelines because, from personal experience, this approach could lead to frustration and backfire.

In her contribution, Ezinne Alfa pointed out the benefits of focusing on one’s niche irrespective of trending issues and Adesola Ade-Unuigbe expounded on the importance of branding in the blogging space.

Participants later engaged networking session where they had the opportunity to hold private conversations with all the speakers amidst music, cocktails and finger-foods.

In his closing remarks, Kanayo Aniegboka, Chief of Staff at Connect Nigeria, commended the speakers and delegates for keying into the Connect Nigeria Business Mixer vision by attending. He stated that the Mixer is one of the ways through which Connect Nigeria helps Nigerian SMEs to succeed, by providing an enabling environment where start-ups can freely network with established professionals in various fields.

The feedback received after the event showed that the event lived up to general expectations.
