Umuahia – For Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, the political environment may have been fouled, as over 400 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his Ward 3 have defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ikpeazu, a PDP governor, is from Ward 3 in Obingwa Local Government Area.
Ibe Onyenso, who led the defectors, was PDP Ward 3 chairman.
He said they decided to dump PDP because of the failure of the party to meet their expectations through Ikpeazu.
APGA, in the November 18 governorship ballot in Anambra, won landslide, leaving PDP at the third position.
Onyenso disclosed that the entire members had lost confidence in the PDP because the governor’s promises during 2015 governorship election were yet to be fulfilled, and that members had run out of patience.
Augustine Ehiemere, the state APGA chairman, said PDP had already disappointed Abians and failed to give the people the right leadership.
He said that those who stole the mandate in 2015 had realised that they bit more than they could chew.
Speaking while receiving the defectors, Alex Otti, the 2015 APGA governorship candidate, said equal rights and privileges of the party would be accorded to them.
He vowed to replicate APGA’s landslide victory in Anambra in Abia come 2019, and described Governor Willie Obiano’s victory in Anambra as a wake up call to the people of Abia
“A few days ago, our performing governor of Anambra State recorded a resounding victory by winning the majority of the votes in all the 21 local government areas.
“This is a feat in the history of Nigeria’s democracy where political heavy weights lost in their wards. The news we bring is news of resilience, news that people of Anambra refused to be cowed,” he added.
