Insurgency: NAF Shifts Focus To Pilots’ Training

Abuja – Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, Monday disclosed the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) decision to have more personnel trained as pilots to meet its air support demands for the ongoing counter-insurgency war in the country.

Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed this decision while winging 12 new young pilots of the country’s Air Force and two of the National Defence of the Republic of Liberia, who have just concluded their pilot training course.

By this, the Air Chief said that the new young pilots had been inducted to fly both military and private aircraft, which was a plus to the nation’s military operations.

This is the second time in less than four months that the NAF has inducted new young pilots.

Abubakar said that there was so much struggle for power now, which was the basis of terrorism all over the world, revealing that he had it as part of his vision to have a professional Air Force that would keep criminally minded power seekers in check.

He admonished the new pilots to be fearless and deal decisively with enemies of the state, who seek to undermine the security of innocent citizens and the country, while advising them also, to treat citizens with respect.

In his remark, Mansur Dan-Ali, Minister of Defence, who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Nuratu Batagarawa, said that the NAF was progressing in the right direction, stressing that it must consolidate on the successes recorded so far in the campaign against Boko Haram.

He assured of government’s continuous support to the Air Force efforts geared towards promoting the security of the country.

The minister advised the new pilots to remain focused and dedicated to duties, stressing that the reward for hardworking was higher responsibility.

Speaking on the induction of the two pilots from Liberia, the minister said it was a collaboration the country was into with Liberia, adding that such continuous collaboration would lead to quick and easy eviction of terrorists in Africa.
