Abuja – Mercy Segun, a 42-year-old mother has been arraigned before Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly beating her daughter and pouring pepper into her private part.
INDEPENDENT gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Idu Gbayi Karmo in Abuja.
Mrs. Florence Auhioboh, police prosecutor told the court that the defendant’s neighbour, one Gift Afegua, reported the matter at the Karmo police station.
According to the prosecutor, the accused is facing a three count charge of criminal force, assault and cursing hurt to a minor.
Her words: “Mercy, knowing her daughter to be a minor, maltreated her by pouring ground pepper into the girl’s private part, which caused her serious pains.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 246, 265 and 238 and of the Penal Code.
However, Abubakar Sadiq, the Judge, granted Mercy a bail in the sum of N30, 000 and ordered that her surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court while the case was adjourned till September 25 for mention.
