Police Arrest House Wife Poisoned Two Weeks Old Baby


Bauchi – The police in Bauchi State have arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Hindatu Abdullahi, who poisoned her two weeks old step son with an insecticide. The boy died.

Abdullahi, a mother of one who was paraded alongside other suspects at police headquarters in Bauchi on Wednesday confessed to the crime, saying that her the trouble she was going through in her marriage for two years forced her to commit the act.

Her words: “I was forced to marry my husband as a second wife at the age of 17 years and I never love him and since we got married, my husband and his first wife have been maltreating me so I decided to poison the boy out of frustration.”

Amidst sobbing, she said “I was taken to vigilante group who gave me 80 lashes of cane before I was brought to police station. I am regretting my action. I never knew what came over me. I’m begging for forgiveness from my husband, eldest wife and security operatives.”

DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, police spokesman for the state confirmed the incident, saying that the case was reported at Maina Maji police, while the husband of the women travelled to Saudi Arabia for hajji.

According to the police, Abdullahi collected the child of her co-wife, Fatima Abdullahi named Mohammed Abdullahi, entered her room and poured ota pia-pia into the mouth of the boy and he became unconscious and was rushed to nearby dispensary, where he died.

“The suspect was arrested and also the remaining quality of the toxic insecticide was also recovered now on the process of scientific examination, the suspect confessed to the offense of which she will charge to court after investigation, he said”.
