For allegedly stealing a gas cooker and cylinder, a 25-year-old Security Guard, Kelvin Egar, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Egar, a resident in Ogba area of Lagos, is facing one- count charge of stealing.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offence on March 9 at Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole a gas cooker with its cylinder valued at N40, 000, property of one Mrs Ibironke Akinfe.
“The accused, who was employed as a security guard to protect the compound, stole the complainant’s property.”
Okuoimose said that the complainant came home and discovered that her gas cooker and cylinder were missing from where she kept them.
“She discovered that her cooker and cylinder were nowhere to be found.
“The complainant raised alarm and she got a tip-off from a neighbour who informed her that she sighted the accused carrying those items.
“When the accused was confronted, he confessed that he sold those items to a man, but he did not know where the buyer resides.
“The case was reported to the police and the accused was immediately arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The law prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr Y.O Ekogbulu, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidences of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
