SON Joins League Of Global Quality Management Auditors

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has joined the league of global quality management auditors, a development that would make the agency one of the global professional bodies advancing the practice of quality management in all sectors of the economy.

The Certification was given to SON Training Center recently by Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), a chartered body for quality professionals improving the performance of organisations by developing their capability in quality management.

Receiving the award, Osita Aboloma, the Director-General, SON,  explained that the feat would give the agency the opportunity to offer a portfolio of courses designed to suit employers’ needs, audit quality-related knowledge, and skills which are increasing demand across many industries in Nigeria today.

He said it would also give SON access to a large market of delegates with a range of course topics and levels, from those who are new to the profession (foundation level) to those with more extensive learning requirements (practitioner and professional levels).

He also pointed out that the certification would help to save the country’s hard-earned foreign exchange since it is now readily available in Nigeria.

According to him, the benefits of quality management certification cannot be over-emphasised, stressing that standards help to assist companies in meeting statutory and regulatory requirements relating to their product while achieving excellence in their customer service and delivery.

It would be recalled that SON recently certified the processes of Mouka Limited, maintaining that the achievement recorded by the company would increase its efficiency, profitability while also reducing operating cost.

Aboloma, during the presentation of the ISO certificate to Mouka Limited, however, urged the company not to relent on its effort but begin the process of attaining the latest Occupational Health and Safety Management System standards, ISO 45001:2018

In his words, ‘‘Today we are celebrating the attainment of conformity to the requirements of ISO:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS) and 14001:2015 Environment Management Systems (EMS) and 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System standards.’’

He said a virile manufacturing sector is critical for the growth of any nation, stating that the role of Mouka cannot be overemphasized. He pointed out that the company is a key player in the core manufacturing sector and has consistently demonstrated conformance to the IMS which comprises of the quality, environmental and the occupational health and safety management system standard requirement.

‘it shows your commitment to increasing performance, employee and customer satisfaction as well as continual improvement,’ he said.
