Two persons have been confirmed dead and several others injured in fresh hostilities between Aladja Community in Udu and Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Areas of Delta State.
Eyewitness account suggests that the latest crisis was a result of a coordinated attack by persons believed to be from Ogbe-Ijoh on Aladja in the early hours of Tuesday with sustained shooting for over three hours before Aladja people regrouped to repel the invaders.
Several people were injured from the shooting as bullets flew in different directions, forcing the people, men, women and children to scamper about to safety. Many of those escaping from the war zones were hit by stray bullets.
As at the time of filing this report, many people have been taken to different hospitals in Warri for urgent medical attention.
Aladja and Ogbe-Ojoh had been locked in serious ownership battle for many years over a large parcel of land measuring over 2,000 hectares, situated between the two neighbours with periodic exchanges of gun shots resulting in the death of many people on both side.
President of Aladja Community, Mr. Ellias Dogene, in confirming the development, disclosed: “Aladja Community was taken unaware early Tuesday morning.
“We started hearing gunshots from both the Isaba and Ogbe-Ijoh ends of the town and before we knew it, they had entered Aladja shooting at anybody in sight. It was a terrible situation but we thank God our boys were able to recover from the shock and push them out of the town,” he added.
