Warri – What may be described as danger signals ahead of the 2019 general elections played out on Monday when supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for House of Representatives for the Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency were attacked during campaign movements in Orogun, Ughelli North Local government areas of Delta state, leading to two persons sustaining life-threatening bullet wounds.
The victims, INDEPENDENT learnt, are currently receiving treatment in private hospital.
In a statement to condemn the act, Honourable Samuel Mariere, member representing Ughelli North Constituency I and PDP Candidate for House of Representatives for the Ughelli/Udu constituency, condemned the act, warning of dire consequences if perpetrators of the act are not cautioned and stopped ahead of the polls.
“I want to warn that attack on my supporters in Orogun must stop. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was not attacked in Evwreni. As I speak, two of my supporters are hospitalized for bullet wounds. Election is not war; let us let the people vote we have all campaigned.
“I am not in doubt that everyone in the Federal Constituency know our capacity and we should not be provoked. A word is enough for the wise,” Mariere said on hearing of the news of attack on his supporters, who were announcing to Orogun people of his planned campaigns movement to the area.
Mariere warned anybody behind the attacks to shun anything capable of truncating the peace of the coming pols.
