Vote According To Your Conscience, Bamidele Tells APC Delegates

Opeyemi Bamidele

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ekiti State approaches, Honourable Opeyemi Bamidele, one of the aspirants, has appealed to the delegates at the primary not to allow the influence of money to dictate their choice of candidate.

Bamidele, former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, in a statement said what should be uppermost in the minds of the delegates is how the party would emerge and remedy what he termed the years of the locust foisted on the state by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

He said any money offered to them by aspirants should be seen as a product of generosity and not an attempt to buy their conscience ahead of the primary.

Bamidele, who described himself as the best man for the position and well-prepared by his past political offices to steer the ship of the state to the Promised Land, urged the delegates to consider the pedigree of all aspirants and what they had achieved in their past offices in arriving at the best candidate for the party.

The former member of the House of Representatives further appealed to the leadership of the party to ensure that the choice of the delegates as represented by their votes carry the day, adding that any manipulation could trigger disharmony in the party.

He disagreed with those calling on former governors not to participate in the primary, saying it is their constitutional right if they believed they are best suited to govern the state.

He said his quarrel with them would be if they attempt to use their position to manipulate the primary in their favour, saying no one should expect the former governors to behave like Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, former governor of the state, who resisted every pressure to contest the 2007 election following his loss of the election in 2003.

He also enjoined the APC leaders to help to ensure cohesion in the party as a critical decision was being made to elect the party’s flag bearer in theJuly 14 election.

He maintained that what should be paramount in the minds of every member of the party was how to return APC to power in the state, adding that this would dictate all his actions before and after the primary.

Bamidele, who hoped to win the primary, promised to carry all members along if they vote for him as their flag bearer.

He assured that the party and its leaders would play a leading role in his administration if elected, saying he understood perfectly the role of the party in modern day democracy and would pursue common interest of all and sundry.
