Yoruba Tennis Club @ 90, Chairman Says Club Built on Character

In preparation for the week long 90th Anniversary celebration of the Yoruba Tennis Club, the leaders and members of the club, today held a press conference at the club’s premises in Onikan, Lagos, to intimate members of the public of the programmes lined up as well as the enviable history of the club, which has spanned nine decades.

Welcoming the chairman, members of trustees, members of club and the press to the event, the Hon. General Secretary of the club, Bro (Engr.) Olawunmi Gasper, reeled out the past chairmen of the club, eulogising them for their immense contribution, and also the present administration of Bro Ayodele Martins.

In his address, the chairman of the Club, Bro Ayodele Martins appreciated the attendees and expressed the fact that the 90th anniversary will commence on September 13 with a thanksgiving service and berth on September 17 with Gala Nite. in between, according to the chairman, there will be a lecture to be given by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on September 16.

During a question and answer session conducted by the Bisi Olatilo, the Chief Executive Officer of Biscon Communications, the chairman fielded questions from members of the press on various issues relating to the club. In one of his answers, the chairman noted that the club is built on character, and only persons of character are absolved.

“The club is basically for mature people. It does not revolve round material things, but on character. As a result, mature people who had seen life are more suited for membership unlike younger men who are yet to know what life is all about. We are our brother’s keeper, and we can’t support anything illegal,” he said.

The high point of the event was the unveiling of the anniversary logo by Bro Dr. Bolaji Ajenifuja and the unveiling of the anniversary cap, gele and ipele by the Women Wing of the Club.

The Vice Chairman, Bro. Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, gave the vote of thanks while the Social Secretary, Bro. Obafemi Oduwole said the closing prayers and led the members in the recitation of the club’s anthem as the conference rounded off.

Among attendees were top media executives which include Azu Arinze of Yes Magazine, Larry Izamoje of Brilla Sports FM, Seyi Kehinde of City Magazine, Yomi Badejo Okusanya of CMC Connect, Yinka Amosu, Rector of Radio Nigeria, General Manager of Metro FM, former governorship aspirant in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Ovation International Editor, Michael Effiong, members of the club, who appeared in all while among many others.
