Unknown gunmen yesterday abducted 14 staffers of an indigenous oil firm, Nestoil, along the Omoku-Elele Road in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the oil workers were returning to their base in Port Harcourt, the state capital, when the heavily armed gunmen ambushed the company bus conveying them.
It was further gathered that immediately the gunmen gained control of the vehicle, they diverted it along with the oil workers to an unknown destination.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Omoni Nnamdi, who confirmed the incident, said the company bus have been recovered by the Police.
Nnamdi, a deputy superintendent of Police (DSP) stated that police detectives have intensified efforts to track down the hoodlums and rescue the victims.
He said, “we are combing the bush in that area. Our men are all over the bush. We are on top of the matter; we are doing our best to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
