Residents and insignias of Ondo Kingdom, the hometown of immediate past governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, trooped out enmass to welcome back home the outgoing governor having successfully served the state for 8 years. Various groups with colourful traditional attires flooded the streets of Ondo city, singing and dancing to receive Mimiko in a heroic welcome while market women and traders did not open for business to enable them participate in the carnival. Supporters accompanying the outgoing governor from Akure moved in a long convoy of over 100 vehicles. On his entry, the outgoing governor was received by excited mammoth crowd as he moved to The Redeemed Church of God, Power Sanctuary, Ondo for a thankskiving service after which he proceeded to the Osemawe’s palace accompanied by groups of well wishers. One of the residents who is also a trader ,Akinideju Omotayo, said Mimiko has recorded unprecedented achievements as Governor and he should be celebrated “It was Mimiko that upgraded my trade. As you see me, I sell cloths. I have been able to upgrade my trade with the soft loans given to us and our market is now very beautiful,” Omotayo told The Trent. Dressed in Mimiko’s customised shirts and dancing jubilantly on the roadshow was Akinbinu Monisola who said she came from Ibadan to celebrate Mimiko’s homecoming. According to her “I had Ceaseran Section in Ondo state in 2015, when my husband could not afford the bill for CS in Ibadan and I decided to come home (Ondo) to have it for Free of charge at the Mother and Child Hospital” The prominent sons and daughters of Ondo also came from far and near to grace the occasion.
