The 3rd Teslimat Fashanu Memorial Tennis Classic has been concluded at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja.
Tagged American Tournament, 32 members of the tennis section featured in the doubles event with players having different partners picked at random.
Five rounds of matches were played by each player and at the end of hostilities, it was Matt Holmes, the top player at the club that amassed the highest number of points; 19 to cart home the biggest trophy.
He was closely followed by Ayo Oludemi and Omatsola Abati who also got trophies by placing second and third with 18 points.
Obi Obed, Adejoro Olateru-Olagbegi, Kola Sofola, Tony Unuavworho, Bimbo Okubena, Niyi Ademowo and Segun Aluko made the top ten. Tosin Osikoya, Ify Adewunmi and Lola Aluko also ended as top three finishers in the women’s category.
Junior players were not left out as Sewa Teluwo defeated Anabel Obosi while Tobi Ayoola edged out Seni Osikoya to the red ball title.
Ololade Holmes beat Serena Teluwo for the girl’s junior title just as Kareem Kareem tops Gideon Aluko for the junior boy’s crown.
Emmanuel Atta got N50, 000 for winning the senior ball boys while the finalist and semi-finalists pocketed N20, 000 and N10, 000. The junior ball boys winner got N25, 000 while the finalist and semi-finalists got N20, 000 and N10, 000 each.
Sponsor of the tournament, Barr. Babatunde Fashanu (SAN) thanked members for honouring him by participating in the tournament with enthusiasm. In view of its rigorous format, he promised to donate a defibrillator – a device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall in treating cardiac arrest to the club.
Section chairman Arinze Onubogu described it as one of the biggest donation to the tennis section.
