FGN Commissions N5.8bn Water Supply Project In Jonathan’s Village 

Gloria Adams, ABUJA, Nigeria. (GVE) – THE Federal Government of Nigeria FGN has commissioned an over N5.8billion central Ogbia regional water supply project in Otueke, Bayelsa State.
The project was initiated by the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and contracted  to one Messrs. NAIRDA Company Ltd in August, 2011 for execution.
 While commissioning the project on Thursday, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu said the scheme was in line with the CHANGE Agenda of the present administration.
To this end, he said the Buhari- led administration will stop at nothing to ensure the completion of all viable projects that will improve the live of Nigerians.
He, however, added that it will also not hesitate to jettison policies and programmes which do not resonate with current realities as well as those with no significant benefit to, or are against the overall interest of the country.
“The project that we are commissioning  today is among the high priority projects for water supply. This project commissioning therefore further demonstrates that the Buhari administration is committed to completing all viable projects that have positive impact on the lives of our people without any political sentiments,
“Indeed,ours is a responsible and responsive government which recognizes the imperative to continue with policies and programmes that are beneficial to the country,
“My ministry is therefore poised to commission as many inherited projects as would be possible, during the life of this administration,” he said.
Earlier, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary,Mrs Rabi Jimeta on her part, said decision by the FG to implement the project was a direct response to deplorable water situation in the community.
She said the project was built with 3.6million litres/day capacity, adequate to serve a population of over 120,000 residents in Otuoke.
She further disclosed that the water will serve 12 other communities of the Central Ogbia Local Government Area.
“this project has been completed to the highest level of standard and quality at a total cost of N5,886,927,480.
“The treated water from the scheme has been subjected to laboratory testing and found to be above both national and international standards for drinking water,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary was represented by the Director, Water Supply, Engr. Ajisegiri Benson.
