RESIDENTS in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Lagos State were left stunned this week when they found an abandoned nine month old baby boy crawling along the road in Shodipo Crescent.
Apparently, the baby, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was seen crawling by residents, who quickly alerted some policemen on patrol in the area. After the alert was sounded, the child was picked up by the policemen and taken to the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja.
It is believed that the nine-month-old crawled out of his parents’ apartment, although no resident in the area had showed up to claim the boy. One police source said that the child would remain in custody until his family shows up with concrete proof of relationship.
A police spokeswoman said: “We found the boy on Shodipo Crescent in the Ikeja GRA, who is about nine months old. He was found crawling on the road and some residents thereafter alerted some policemen on patrol.
“The police team rescued the baby but so far, nobody has come up to claim the baby. He must have left the custody of his parents or guardian and that is how some children fall into the hands of kidnappers and ritual killers.”
