APC Zamfara: Yari’s loyalists write Buni, call for urgent intervention

A group loyal to the former governor of Zamfara state, Abdullaziz Yari has written a letter to governor Mai Mala Buni led Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asking for an urgent intervention in the crisis ravaging the Zamfara state chapter of the party.
The state chapter has been battling on who controls the party’s structure in the state, even as the party lost all the political offices to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 general elections.
The crisis has led to the emergence of two warring factions led by Senator Kabiru Marafa and Abdullaziz Yari.
Addressing a press conference Thursday at the national secretariat of the APC, the group, known as APC Peace Unity Forum (APC PUF) said it was necessary for the national leadership of the party to intervene in the crisis before the October 31, 2020 concurrent legislative bye-election in the state.
The letter dated August 20, 2020, signed by Chairman and Secretary of the group Hon. Salisu Isah Gusau and Barr. Auwal Ahmad Nahuche, respectively and addressed to Chairman of the APC National Caretaker Committee, the group expressed fears that if the squabbles in the state chapter of the APC was not resolved, the party would loss the election and many others in the future.
The letter reads in part, “With all sense of humility and due respect to all our party leaders and members at national, regional and state levels; we deem it fit to re-awaken all of us to the clarion call to rescue our hard earned and united, peaceful and great party, the APC from banishment in the state.
“Dear APC leaders, we the above named forum having examined and reviewed what happened to APC in Zamfara state that culminated into what we described as cold coup and snatching of power from our great party and allocating same to generally rejected unpopular candidates from our opposition using the legal apparatus.
“It may interest you to know that, since 1999 till date, our great party, APP to ANPP to APC has never lost elections in the state and it is not unconnected with the successful leadership succession of the party and ability to resolve any intra party conflict arising mostly from congresses and conventions.”
“Factions are inevitable in any reasonable party but should be managed effectively so as not to cause more harm than good.
“There were several anti-party activities embarked upon by the persons listed below. There was a video clip quoting Marafa saying, he will destroy the party at the state level since he cannot destroy it at National level. Copies of pictures of Marafa, Wakkala, Yarima and their cohorts with current governor of the state;
“The alleged persons behind this mess are as follows: Senator Kabiru Garba, Wakkala Muhammad Liman, (Former Deputy Governor), Senator Ahmad Sani (Yariman Bakura). Creation Mushroom Political Parties And Fielding Candidates Against The APC.
“SSG; Bala Bello Maru Contested under ACCORD party for governorship; Abubakar Abdullahi (Abu Doctor) for House of reps Tsafe/Gusau who despite he was running for the post he was still Senator Marafa’s aide at the National Assembly; similarly Muzakkiru Sidi Bawa was a board member of Federal Poly Birnin Kebbi but still ran for the Tsafe East state constituency membership in Zamfara state;
“Also Pharm Isyaku Ibrahim Anka ran for senatorial seat of Zamfara west. Alhaji Muhammad Mukhtar Ahmad Abdullahi (Darman Gusau) ran for Zamfara Central senatorial seat after his failed bid in APC Flag bearer for house of reps. He has since been appointed special adviser Rural Water Agency. This is capable of blocking APC chances in the elections and also causing mayhem and confusion in the party.
Participation in opposition government by the following: Secretary to the state government from Marafa camp, Hon. Commissioners: Abubakar Muhammad Dauran; Ministry of Security and Home Affairs Loyal to H.E Ibrahim Wakkala; and Abubakar Abdullahi Tsafe (Abu Doctor) of ministry of community development and cooperatives who is loyal to Kabiru Mafara faction;
“There was an instruction from the national working committee (NWC) that, all litigations pending before the courts be withdrawn against party members. The Marafa led faction refused and neglected to withdraw theirs that was pending before State High Court sitting in Zamfara State. Recently the court ruled that, all party leaders in the state at all levels are voided from parading themselves from their offices.
“These also against Constitution/Manifesto (as amended 2014) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as enshrined in Article 21: A i & ii of the said Party Constitution.
“We realized the action of these unpatriotic members of the party in the state could lead to a situation similar to Sen. Magnus Abe and H.E Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers State as well as case of Imo state where Hon. Uche Nwosu went to court against the party and Hon. Emeka ihedioha was declared victorious. In view of the foregoing, we crave the indulgence of interim National Working Committee (NWC) to investigate this matter to its logical conclusion before its final determination.”
