The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon Samuel Osorichi Nwanosike says the formation of Vigilante groups in Area was a creation of the Council bye law.
Nwanosike said the Vigilante were formed to assist the security agents with information’s to tackle crimes and criminalities in the area
The groups, he said is scattered in 12 communities in the 13 wards of the local government to provide necessary information’s for the security agents to combat crimes.
Nwanosike spoke to Newsmen on Thursday at Isiokpo, Council Headquarter while giving account of his two years stewardship in office to the chiefs, elders and political class from the area
He noted that the Vigilante groups would help in community policing and aid the security agents with vital security information.
He lamented that the local government was nearly sacked by the activities of criminals, cultists and kidnapping before his inception two years ago.
Nwanosike said the presence of the group had brought peace, development and job creations in the LGA
The Council Boss insisted that members of the outfits were profiled by the security agents to fish out bad eggs amongst them, as punishment awaits any body that faulted.
“Any member of the community policing that defaults shall be punished” he said.
According to him, “the outfit is meant to create conducive atmosphere, peace in the communities and work with the security agents towards achieving peace and unity”
