Police dismiss Inspector for killing 20-yr-old Fashion Designer over N50 bribe in Osun

The Police Force have arrested and dismissed the police inspector, Ago Egharevbe who allegedly killed a 20-year-old, Fashion designer, Taiwo Ayomide in Osun because of N50 bribe.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest of Inspector Egharevbe in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday.

Opalola said Egharevbe was said nabbed and tried in the orderly room. She disclosed that the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Undie Adie had recommended his dismissal to the Inspector General of Police.

She further explained that the suspect would be charged to court on  “The Inspector has been tried in orderly room and the Commissioner of Police for Osun State, CP Undie Adie had recommended his dismissal to the IGP and he is going to be charged to the court tomorrow,” Opalola said.

Ayomide,  was allegedly brutalised with the butt of the gun by Inspector Egharevbe over alleged N50 bribe on Wednesday.

He was rushed to Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he received treatment under intensive care until his demise on Sunday morning.

It would be recalled that Ayomide and one of his brothers identified as Oladimeji Wasiu, were riding on a motorcycle, returning from Iragbiji, their home town after Eid-el-Kabir celebration when they had an encounter with the police.

The incident was said to have occurred at Ilahun village along Ibokun road around 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

Narrating the occurrence, Wasiu who was riding on the bike with the victim said they met police officers at a checking point along Odo Osun (Osun River), Ilahun village, Ibokun road Obokun Local Government Area and one of the officers who had earlier ordered them to stop allegedly hit Ayomide with the butt of the gun.

Wasiu stated that the police officer who was heavily drunk , got mad at Ayomide when he discovered that he had more than N50 on him, adding that the Police officer started hitting the victim with butt of thegun until he fell down from the bike and became unconscious.

He said the policeman fled immediately after the attack, carting away
the victim’s N50,000 and mobile phone.

“While we were coming from home, at Iragbiji after Sallah, we met four police officers on our way, one of the police officer was drinking alcohol. He stopped us and requested for money. When my brother brought out money to give him he saw the huge amount of money in his pocket, and started hitting him with the butt of his gun out of anger.
His annoyance was probably that my brother had hesitated to pay the bribe.

“Before I stood up to rescue my brother, I discovered that the police officer was on the verge of running away before he was stopped by passers-by and my other brothers who were coming behind us.

“Ayomide was then rushed to LAUTECH hospital.”

Another witness, Adebayo Popoola, a trained tailor, told newsmen that he had only come to celebrate Salah with him at Iragbiji and was with N50,000 expected to be given to his mother.
