The annual Talala (oath taking) Festival staged in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa on Saturday witnessed the gathering of hundreds of hunters from Adamawa, Gombe, Borno, Yobe and Taraba States.
At the gathering, Malam Mohammed Tola, the Chairman of Adamawa Hunters Association/Acting Chairman for North East, urged them to remain courageous in their profession as they serve their community and the country by extension.
The chairman thanked the Government and Adamawa traditional council for their support to the hunters in their fight against insurgents, noting that such encouragement goes a long way in boosting the confidence of members of the hunters association.
In his comments, during the event, which witnessed the drinking of concoction by the hunters for protection and the conduction of rituals on the hunters’ Dane guns to function properly against the enemy Hunters in north-east, Malam Salihu Buba, the Administrative Secretary of the association said the ceremony was to also identify genuine members and expose fake ones.
The state Women Leader, Aisha Bakari, pledged the commitment of female hunters to continue to contribute their quota like their male counterparts.
