18 In Police Net For Cattle Rustling, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery In Niger

Minna – Niger State Police Command has said in it has arrested no fewer than 18 suspects in connection with cases of cattle rustling, kidnapping and armed robbery that took place in parts of the state in the past few weeks.

Two of the suspects; Ali Muhammed and Isiya Hassan were arrested in connection with the kidnap of one, Umaru Alhaji Manny and collected the sum of N500, 000 as ransom from his family before his release.

Muhammed Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State command, who paraded the suspects before newsmen on Monday said the duo were arrested by a team of the Commissioner of Police anti-kidnapping squad.

The feat was achieved when the police raided their hideouts and a number of dangerous weapons recovered, Abubakar said adding that about N170, 000 cash believed to be the left over from the ransom collected from the victims’ family were also recovered from the criminals.

One Tukur Ibrahim and Tambaya Bello were also paraded for allegedly raiding the Fulani camp in Lefu village, Mashegu Local Government Area of the state during which 14 cows, 20 sheep, 11 goats believed to have been rustled were recovered.

Three AK 47 rifles with eight rounds of ammunition and two empty magazines as well as a set of Army uniform were recovered from the suspects, the police spokesman said, adding that, one Daniel Ocheku, Abdulmalik Sani, and Zubairu Usman all aged between 28 and 32 years were arrested in Minna for alleged armed robbery.

The suspects were said to have robbed one, Mohammed Sabe of some personal valuables when they broke into his residence along the Brighter Schools area of the state capital and one Accurate MDX with registration Number, MNA435JB reportedly stolen from the victim was recovered from the suspects the police spokesman said.

Abubarkar said investigations into all the cases had been completed and the suspects would be charged to court soon.
