Awka – The 6th Anambra State House of Assembly has called for the outright sack of all heads of security agencies in the country over what it described as their inability to guarantee internal security and protection of the citizenry.
The call is coming against the backdrop of the recent abduction of 110 schoolgirls in Dapchi, Yobe State.
The lawmakers condemned in very strong terms the abduction of the schoolgirls saying that the Federal Government and the security agencies have failed in their responsibilities to guarantee the security of lives and property in the country.
Moving a motion on the outright condemnation of the kidnap of the Dapchi schoolgirls, Obinna Chris Emeneka of Anambra-East State Constituency explained that Nigerians were living in fear due to the prevalence of security lapses across the country.
Emeneka who spoke so passionately while presenting his motion on Wednesday on the floor of the House, said while the nation cannot account for the whereabouts of the missing Chibok girls; the country has plunged itself into another misfortune with the abduction of the Dapchi school girls.
Timothy Ifedioramma representing Njikoka 1 State Constituency while contributing to the discussions opined that it is sad that the security system in Nigeria has collapsed.
He said that the Federal Government has failed Nigerians judging from the incessant terror attacks and mayhem unleashed on the citizenry by the Boko Haram sect and other militia groups.
Ifedioramma therefore expressed worries that schoolgirls had been turned into sex slaves, and insisted that security outfits in the country must be proactive.
He added that the security agencies should assure Nigerians that they are capable of providing security to Nigerians wherever they in the country.
On the other hand, the lawmaker representing Dunukofia State Constituency, Lawrence Ezeudu, maintained that heads of security agencies in the country should be sacked forthwith.
He said that there was no excuse whatsoever for kidnapping schoolgirls anywhere in Nigeria.
Ezeudu, who said that the nation should be ashamed of itself, noted that all the commissions of inquiry set-up by the Federal Government to investigate issues of abduction and other offences against the state had come to nothing.
Rita Maduagwu, the Speaker of the House, together with other legislators called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the Dapchi schoolgirls and others still in captivity regain freedom.
