Abuja – Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari is actually recovering very well as against the claims by Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose that the President is on life support.
Oyegun at the end of a meeting between the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and the governors elected on the platform of the party, told newsmen that the recovery rate of the president is very high and might be home sooner than expected.
“We are glad to inform you that President Muhammadu Buhari is recovering in a very robust manner.
“We hope he takes it easy and when he comes back, I have no doubt at all that we will have is a new and active period of activities,” he said.
He, however, said only the president’s doctors abroad could decide when he would be fit to return to the country.
It would be recalled that Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State had alleged that President Buhari was on life-support in a London Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
Asked to respond to the governor’s allegations, Oyegun said Fayose doesn’t deserve any response from him as doing so will be demeaning of him (Oyegun).
“If I respond, I will be dignifying him. At the appropriate time, people will answer him; at the appropriate level; at the appropriate time. He is in a different world altogether” Oyegun said.
Irrespective of the situation of the president, the APC leadership and the party in general, he said, have absolute confidence in the ability, and capacity of the president to provide good leadership for Nigeria.
The party leadership at the meeting he said, x-rayed the nation, ongoing agitation for its restructuring and inciting statements emanating from different parts of the country with all condemning the hate speeches.
Odigie-Oyegun stressed that such inciting statements are not good “for the nation`s health and have to be stopped.”
According to him, the party maintains its earlier position on the restructuring of the country as clearly stated in its manifesto.
“We discussed issues affecting the nation and the impact of the current of agitations across the country. On each of these, we decided to strengthen the party.
“We decided that the kind of verbiage and incendiary statements by different groups, are not good for the health of the nation and we decided that it had to stop,” he said.
On what the party and the Federal Government intend to do on the raging agitations, Oyegun said: “For that reason, we will take certain measures, which I will not disclose here to ensure that the basic and fundamental unity of this country is preserved while at the same time listen to whatever grievances anybody has to say.”
