House of Representatives gets new deputy majority leader

OrderPaperToday- The Speaker of the House of Representatives announced Isa Abdulahi Wase (APC, Plateau) as the new Deputy Majority Leader of the House in the place of the late Buba Jibril, who passed on early in the year.

Mr. Wase held sway as the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ committee on Federal Character.

Similarly, the Clerk of the House of Representatives swore in Mr. Haruna Isah (APC, Kogi) as a new member representing the Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency of Kogi State.

Isah, who took both the oaths of office and allegiance, was elected to fill the vacancy created by the demise of the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Buba Jibril.

In a related development, Speaker Yakubu Dogara also read the letter of Lawan Gumau (APC, Bauchi) and Ahmad Baba-Kaita (APC, Katsina), to intimate his colleagues of their switch to the Senate. Dogara said the leadership of the House will take its time before declaring their seats vacant.

The two were recently elected Senators for Bauchi South and Katsina North respectively.

Lawan Gumau and Ahmad Baba-Kaita recently emerged winners in Bauchi South and Katsina North Senatorial by-elections, held to fill vacancies created by the deaths of Senators Ali Wakili and Mustapha Bukar in March 2018.

Before switching to the Senate, both Gumau and Baba-Kaita were members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives.
