The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, had yesterday warned all members to desist from making official comments on behalf of the party without authorization.

In a statement issued yesterday, signed by the party’s Head of Publicity Division of the office of National Publicity Secretary, Chinwe I. Nnorom, the leadership said it frowns at “the incessant and unauthorized statements that are being issued by some Party members purported to have spoken for and on behalf of the Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

The party had since June 17, 2015 been struggling with numerous persons claiming to be speaking for the party both in conventional and social media, many of whom have been “speaking at variance with the Party.”

Madam Nnorom said even though the leadership of the party welcomes members and supporters who may wish to speak in their official or personal capacities to do so, It warns that “it will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures, accordingly, against any member that flouts this directive.”

The party “unequivocally” disowned one Prince Deji Adeyanju who claimed to be its Director of New Media, stating that “the position of Director of New Media is non-existent and alien to the PDP Establishment Manual, and has not appointed Prince Deji Adeyanju” for that position; adding, “for emphasis, Social (new) Media is one of the Units in the Publicity Division of the Party and not a separate directorate, division or unit.”

It reminds its members and the general public that Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary is still the Chief Spokesman and Image-maker of the party, in line with its Constitution. “Consequently, nobody is allowed to issue official statement or speak for and on behalf of the party except authorized by the Party hierarchy to do so.”

The party also announced “the immediate closure of the Party’s Official Twitter Handle, @pdpnigeria and the re-launch of another new handle @officialpdpnig for effective use and control.

According to the statement, “This decision has once again becomes necessary due to the frequent unauthorized, and most times embarrassing tweets that emanate from the handle tweeted by the handlers claiming to represent the PDP.”

The Party had in the past, announced the Shutdown of the handle on two occasions when hackers manipulated it to embarrass the Party.
