Presidency Hails Unilorin’s Commitment To Quality Service Delivery

The Presidency has commended the commitment of the management of University of Ilorin to quality service delivery to its students and other stakeholders.

The Acting National Coordinator, SERVICOM Office of the President, Mrs Nnenna Akajimeli, gave the commendation on Wednesday at the launch of Service Charter of the university.

She described the Service Charter, ratified by SERVICOM, Presidency, as suitable and implementable both in context and content.

She said that the launch was an attestation and demonstration of the commitment of the University management, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali and members of his management team to turn around the service delivery processes of the university.

The coordinator acknowledged the support and encouragement the vice-chancellor had been giving to the SERVICOM Unit of the university towards entrenching the culture of improved service delivery.

Akajimeli implored the university authorities to sustain the support and encouragement given to the institution’s SERVICOM Unit.

She said that the service delivery initiative would usher in many benefits for the different customer groups and clients of the institution if improved upon.

According to her, the Service Charter is a document which represents and expresses the commitment of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) towards their customers in respect of service standards, information, choice and consultation.

She said that in most cases, services provided to citizens were seen as privileges rather than entitlements.

This situation, she said, gave rise to the Federal Government’s directive to all MDAs to produce their Service Charters by the end of July 2005 as an indication to check the anomalies observed.

The institution`s Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, said that one of the best initiatives of the Federal Government was the introduction of the Service Charter to Nigerians.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Service Charter is otherwise known as SERVICOM.

He said that the initiative had improved the standard of service delivery in the whole country. (NAN)
