Rohr keen on discipline, Enyeama’s return

Super Eagles: Gernot Rohr seals two –year contract

Super Eagles technical adviser says indiscipline would not be tolerated as he builds a new team for Nigeria.

He also expressed optimism on the return of former goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama to the squad.

Speaking with newsmen after the team’s training on Thursday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, ahead of Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania, the German coach says he is ready not to be distracted.

Managing big players
I’m happy to be here. I’m proud to be the coach of big players and we will give our best to succeed. It’s difficult to say if I’m the right man.

Let other people say it. I have experience in African football and I have German mentality but to succeed in Africa you need the right discipline and that is why I think I am the right man.

I permitted Kingsley Madu to stay back because of Transfer Deadline day and he changed clubs on the last day of the window.

Enyeama’s return
I know Enyeama. I called him. We spoke and I will meet him after this game. He is a very big player and I know we must have all the best players to have a chance against Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon.

Let’s wait for Carl Ikeme to come first. He had an injury and had to stay for special treatment at his club. I saw the other two goalkeepers yesterday and they were interesting.

One of them played in the Olympic Games. It’s very important to have a goalkeeper who is respected and experienced.

Homebased players
The game against Awka United was to see the young players in action. I am sure that we can do it together if we play as a team and live well together.

I was in Spain to see the NPFL All Stars because I wanted to see young players coming from Nigeria. We also should have experienced players too.

Even though Nigerian teams are not going far in African cups, I will still watch the league and see players from it.

Fear of being owed salaries
I’m a patient man. I worked in Niger and was not paid for about 8 months but I worked. There’s a contract and I do my work so it’s not my problem where the money is coming from.

My problem for now is victory on Saturday and then the game against Zambia next month. If there is a contract I believe everybody will be honest and respect the contract.
