Transfer Deadline Day: This Tottenham Hotspur Signing Loves Arsenal

An endorsement of your biggest rival is not exactly something you want to hear from your joint record transfer.

But Moussa Sissoko, Tottenham’s new £30 million signing ($39.4 million), seems to be a fan of bitter rival Arsenal, at least judging by some of his recent comments.

“Everyone knows, I have often said when I was young, my heart was Arsenal because there were a lot of French players there,” Sissoko said this year.

It gets worse, too. “The beautiful Arsenal,” was how Sissoko described Arsene Wenger’s club in June. And in 2014? “When I was young, Arsenal was my favorite club. My idol was Patrick Vieira.”

Of course, that affiliation to the red side of north London will hardly hamper Sissoko’s performances. Very few players end up signing for the club they support.

It could, though, take the Frenchman a little more time than usual to win over Tottenham’s fans.
