Nigeria has been pitted against Kenya and Ghana in the hockey male and female categories of the World League One Series slated for Accra, Ghana, from September 9 to 11, 2016, at the Theodocia Okoe National Hockey Pitch in Accra.
According to the draws released yesterday by the Ghana Hockey Association, Nigeria’s women team would face their Kenyan counterparts on September 9, after the Kenyans play the opening match of the tourney against Ghana.
The teams that top both categories would advance to the second round of the World League in February 2017 and inch closer to the 2018 World Cup in England (women) and India (men). African champions South Africa and second-placed Egypt have received a bye to the second round, thanks to their high world rankings.
The Kenyans beat both Ghana and Nigeria on their way to a third place finish during last year’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
